Abu Dawud 17 (Book 1, Hadith 17)

Narrated by Muhammad bin al-Muthanna, who narrated from Abdul-A’la, who narrated from Sa’id, from Qatadah, from Al-Hasan, from Hudhayn bin al-Mundhir Abu Sa’saan, from Al-Muhajir bin Qunfudh, that he came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) while he was urinating and greeted him, but he did not respond to him until he performed ablution. Then he apologized to him and said, “Indeed, I dislike mentioning Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, except while in a state of purity,” or he said, “except in a state of ritual purity.”
