Narrated by Al-Humaydi, Abdullah ibn al-Zubair reported to us, saying: Sufyan told us, saying: Yahya ibn Sa’id al-Ansari informed us that Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Taymi heard Alqamah ibn Qais al-Laythi say, “I heard Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was on the pulpit, saying, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying, “Verily, deeds are only by intentions, and every person has only that which he intended. So, whoever’s migration is for Allah and His Messenger, then his migration is for Allah and His Messenger. And whoever’s migration is to achieve some worldly gain or to take a woman in marriage, then his migration is for that to which he migrated.“
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيُّ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنَ وَقَّاصٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : ” إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ، وَإِنَّمَا لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى دُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا أَوْ إِلَى امْرَأَةٍ يَنْكِحُهَا، فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ “
