Narrated to us Ibrahim bin Hamza, who said, narrated to us Ibrahim bin Saad, from Salih, from Ibn Shihab, from Ubaidullah bin Abdullah, that Abdullah bin Abbas informed him. He said, Abu Sufyan informed me that Heraclius said to him, “I asked you whether they (the followers of Muhammad) increase or decrease. You claimed that they increase, and so is the faith until it is complete. I also asked you whether anyone turns renegade (after embracing Islam) out of displeasure with his religion after he had entered it. You claimed that no one does, and so is faith when its cheerfulness enters the hearts; no one will dislike it.”
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سُفْيَانَ، أَنَّ هِرَقْلَ، قَالَ لَهُ سَأَلْتُكَ هَلْ يَزِيدُونَ أَمْ يَنْقُصُونَ، فَزَعَمْتَ أَنَّهُمْ يَزِيدُونَ، وَكَذَلِكَ الإِيمَانُ حَتَّى يَتِمَّ. وَسَأَلْتُكَ هَلْ يَرْتَدُّ أَحَدٌ سَخْطَةً لِدِينِهِ بَعْدَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ فِيهِ، فَزَعَمْتَ أَنْ لاَ، وَكَذَلِكَ الإِيمَانُ حِينَ تُخَالِطُ بَشَاشَتُهُ الْقُلُوبَ، لاَ يَسْخَطُهُ أَحَدٌ.
