Abu Dawud 42 (Book 1, Hadith 42)

Narrated to us Qutaibah ibn Sa’id and Khalaf ibn Hisham al-Muqri’, they said: Abdullah ibn Yahya al-Taw’am narrated to us, and Amr ibn Awn narrated to us, he said: Abu Ya’qub al-Taw’am informed us, from Abdullah ibn Abi Mulaykah, from his mother, from Aisha, who said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) urinated. Umar brought a vessel of water behind him. The Prophet asked, ‘What is this, O Umar?’ He replied, ‘This is water for you to perform ablution with.’ The Prophet said, ‘I have not been commanded to perform ablution every time I relieve myself, but if I were to do so, it would be a Sunnah.'”
